Do You Have a Refund Coming??
Senator Charles Schumer has notified the Town that there is money due to over 12,000 New Yorkers from the IRS. Some refund checks as high at $25,000 are due to New Yorkers who have let their refunds go unclaimed. The reason for the majority of the unclaimed refunds is due to the person not filing and change of address form. Postal Service regulations require that government checks be returned when taxpayers move or remarry and do not have their checks addressed in their new names.
To make it easy to find out if you are owed money, access www.schumer.senate.gov
Go to the first link under yellow “Top Issues” box. The website will allow you to see if you are on the list and explains how to obtain the refund. If you do not have access to the Internet, contact Senator Shumer’s office (212) 486-4430 for assistance. Taxpayers who are owed money, may claim it by calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
