As
the nice weather approaches, so do many changes in the NYS Uniform
Building and Fire Codes. As a reminder, it is very important to
contact the Code Enforcement Office to see if your project requires a
building permit. Failure to obtain a permit that may be required
could result in a violation and fines, so please check with this office
before you build.
Many
people think that some projects or structures are temporary therefore
assuming that they don't need a permit. The code, state or local,
does not recognize a structure as being 'temporary". ALL
structures, additions, alterations, and
demolitions in the Town of Somerset require a building permit.
This includes portable pools.
A
Few Reminders:
-
ALL
swimming pools, portable or permanent require a building permit AND
possibly a building inspection.
-
As
of March 1st 2003, all existing and new built homes will be required
to install a Carbon Monoxide detector on each floor of your
home. If there are any questions, call the Code Enforcement Office.

that "...it shall be unlawful for a property owner and/or
resident of the Town of Somerset to have on his or her property at
one time, for 30 days or more unhoused, unregistered
vehicles..." Section 205-11F-2c states that "...the same
or different vehicles of the following type will be counted:

These
two ordinances will be strictly enforced this year and letters of
